Enjoying Safari Photography

Most people dream of going to a safari for a tour. It is because of the place’s inherent appeal and the wildlife and people who are in it, but a new breed of safari tourists are being conceived, those who do safari photography.

Many think of riding large four-wheel drive vehicles when they hear the word safari. That’s what you see on the telly, but that’s not what really happens all the time when you go to a safari. In Namibia for example, there is a national park that you could go visit wherein you don’t really have to be chased by a roaring lion. This is where you can take your photographs.

Wild animals are not really going to pose for your camera. Aside from that, these beasts look better when you’ve caught them candidly. So, just try to be quiet and observe. If you have a fast shutter camera you’ll be able to capture all their moves. However, if you just have the point-and-shoot, which should also work fine. But if you can, arm yourself with a camera with an image stabilizer so you don’t have to worry about blurry photos even if you are inside a moving vehicle.

When doing safari photography though, the memories you can collect are far more important than the professional looking photos. Unless you are a photographer for the National Geographic, then bonding with people important to you should weigh more. Yes, capturing the hippos in their natural habitat is nice indeed, however, your fun times with loved ones or friends being preserved in photos are the real reason for being there. Safari photography will not mean anything if the one holding the camera is not having fun with what he is doing, because that is photography, capturing your happy moments on film.
